Some of the animals you come across inSoulmaskcan be tamed and used as a mount to help your character travel across the open world. Not all the creatures on your map can become mounts, but those that can must be raised from an early age. Every mount offers something different for those looking to improve mobility, storage, and defense against hostile animals.
Unless you are usingconsole commands inSoulmaskto teleport to various areas on your map, you’ll eventually want a mount to travel to different locations faster. Mounts are excellent ways to traverse dangerous regions quickly, but they also can be useful for storing additional items you collect. To ride any tamed mount, youneed to have a Saddle for a specific creaturecrafted and equipped for a friendly animal.

15 Coolest Creatures To Tame In Ark: Survival Ascended
Ark: Survival Ascended carries over 140 dinosaurs from the original game, but some that can be tamed ones are cooler and have more uses than others.

One of the two default mounts you immediately have access to inSoulmaskis theAlpaca, a docile farm animal that will be more than ready to become a faithful companion to your character. These creatures have far more Stamina than you and are capable of carrying a larger stockpile of items due to a larger max Weight stat. This is a commonly shared trait among mounts, who can act as additional inventory and a mode of transport.

Like all mounts, Alpacas must be raised from an early age to become reliable steeds, but you first have tofind and capture an Alpaca in the wild. These creatures tend tospawn in Barbarian Baracks, which contain a variety of livestock animals. Be careful approaching these locations though, as Barbarians are dangerous enemies who will attack your character if they try to take an Alpaca from their enclosures.
The Flint Tribe and Claw Tribe camps of Barbarian Barracks tend to have the highest number of Alpacas you’re able to take. Remember toonly take baby Alpacas, as older creatures are too loyal to enemies to switch sides.

Once you take an Alpaca back to your camp, you need togive it food and water to help it growand become a mount. When it becomes an adult, youhave to craft a Saddledesigned for the creature before you can ride it. Those thattame an Alpaca inSoulmaskwill also have tospend 15 Leather, 10 Leather Ropes, and 10 Coarse Cottonto build an Alpaca Saddle, but there are some requirements for your character you have to meet first.
For any mount, youneed an Awareness Strength of a certain levelto unlock the technology trees featuring various animal Saddles. The Alpaca Saddle will be under theDawn of the New Tribetab, within theLeather Gearoption. Search for the followingSaddlecraftmenu to get startedwhen you reach Awareness Strength 15and can access the two default animal Saddles from this crafting list.

The other early-game mount you can unlock is theLlama, a similar creature to the Alpaca in nearly every way. However, while Alpacas are a natural choice for your first mount, Llamas are usually a better choice due to their higher Carrying Capacity. Llamas can carry far more items than Alpacas, giving you more room to store items you farm, including important resources, as you travel around the map ofSoulmask.
Similar to thebest mounts inARK: Survival Ascended, Llamas are dependable because it does not cost you too many valuable resources to tame and ride them. A Llama’s Saddle onlytakes 20 Leather, 10 Leather Ropes, 15 Coarse Cotton, and 10 Thin Ropesto make. Compared to some other mounts you’ll need to construct to ride larger creatures, these are fairly common resources you may already be using in other projects.
According to the above video by YouTube creatorTiiaPlaysStuff, Llamashave the highest carrying capacity out of any mount, making them worth taming even if you have another animal loyal to you. In the same video, you can also see thatLlamas tend to spawn as wild creatures in forested areasof the map, meaning you have tocapture them with traps. Only a Medium Trap or one of greater strength will be able to contain these creatures.

While theJaguarandPanthermay not have the same Carrying Capacity as Llamas, they are much faster mounts to tame. Both of these creatures are the same and exist as variants of each other that you could encounter in the wild. Jaguars are spotted cats that attack with a brash ferocity when meeting your character in the wild, while Panthers use their jet-black fur to sneak up on prey and avoid being seen with incredible stealth.
These animals tend to be located in the jungle, but they can be much harder to find as you explore, even withdifferent masks inSoulmaskboosting your character’s skills. Your character needs tofind a Jaguar or Panther cuband raise it with the right food and water to tame the creature into becoming your next mount. However, you can’t find baby Jaguars or Panthers just waiting around to be captured.
Fresh Meat and Fish tend to build a Jaguar or Panther’s loyalty to you, but other mounts may require grains or simple crops to tame. Try to build a Food Trough or Water Trough in a small enclosure so make feeding your next mount a safe and painless process.
As you can see in the above video by YouTube creatorKiahOnFire, you have tofind Jaguar or Panther tracks and interact with themto reveal one of these creatures' locations in the wild. Once you spot a version of this animal, you can track it while it hunts until it returns to its home. From here, the Jaguar or Panther may give birth or have a cub already near for you to take while it goes hunting again the next day.
The only way to build a Jaguar or Panther Saddle is tohave the Bronze technology tree unlockedfrom theAdvancement of Bronze. Your character’sAwareness Strength should be 25before you make the Saddle out of20 Leather Ropes, 10 Fine Cotton, and 5 Bronze Ingots. Those who manage to have a Jaguar or Panther mount can have an incredibly fast creature ready to sprint out of danger at a moment’s notice.

TheOstrichis one of the most powerful animals inSoulmaskand can be extremely hard to defeat even with your best weapons and gear. Unlike other mounts, you will likely have a confrontation with Ostriches as they tend to lay their eggs together in large groups within a central nest. Even trying to approach the nest can be difficult as you will almost always draw the attention of at least one Ostrich ready to defend its offspring.
Ostrich eggs can be found near the tops of cliffs, mountains, or other rocky regions you explore. The Desert biome holds the largest population of Ostriches in various rock formations scattering the area. You have tosteal at least one eggand take it back to your camp to raise an Ostrich as a mount, but only if you meet the right requirements to make this creature’s Saddle.
The Ostrich has a rare ability inSoulmaskthat allows you to glide instead of falling from a high elevation. This not only reduces fall damage to your mount and character, but it can also help you travel over greater distances.
Your character has to have anAwareness Strength Level of 36along with theGlow of Iron Ageupgrade that unlocks the Iron technology tree.20 Premium Leather, 15 Fine Cotton, 10 Cotton Ropes, and 5 Iron Ingotsmake up an Ostrich Saddle, which will allow you to use all the benefits that come from the flightless bird. Although it is not rare to find an Ostrich in the wild, it can be very difficult to raise one as you attempt to cultivate a new mount.
10 Best Survival Games To Play Right Now, Ranked
If you have a penchant for scrounging for resources just to survive, then it’s necessary to check out the best survival games that are out right now.
One of the rarest creatures you can encounter inSoulmaskis theSnow Leopard, an animal that only spawns in the Snow Mountain habitat. This area is reserved for those who have reached the endgame with powerful weapons and gear. Similar to Ostriches, Snow Leopard are fearsome enemies that will take all your strength and willpower to defeat if you ever confront one directly.
As you can see in the above video by YouTube creatorwak4863, your character’s speed is slowed down when you carry a baby animal. Be careful while you do this to a Snow Leopard cub, as you will leave your character vulnerable to attacks if the parent is still close.
In the same way as the Jaguar or Panther, you need tofollow a Snow Leopard’s tracksto find out where it lives. From here, you will be able to take a cub away from its den back to your camp, so you can tame it and raise it as a mount. Keep in mind that your character needs to be atAwareness Strength Level 51to have the necessary technology tree unlocked to build a Saddle for this creature when it grows up.
Under theSteel Agetab, you should be able to find the technology tree associated with Steel materials. The Snow Leopard Saddle costs20 Delicate Leather, 15 Smooth Cloth, 10 Cotton Ropes, and 5 Steel Ingotsin total to create. While this may be the most expensive out of all the Saddles to craft, managing to get perhaps the best mount inSoulmaskwill make the effort worth it.
