What Happened in Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc Episode #3?
Tanjiro trains with the former Sound Hashira
Episode #3 ofDemon Slayer: Hashira Training Archad Tanjiro, now recovered from the injuries he sustained last season, joining in with Tengen Uzui’s Hashira training. Tanjiro performed exceptionally well in his training, often pulling ahead of his fellow demon slayers and approaching the harsh training with enthusiasm and vigor. Tanjiro was quite pleased to be reunited with Uzui and his wives, and they felt similarly about seeing him. Tanjiro has clearly earned Uzui’s respect after they fought together in the Entertainment District arc.
To finish off the training, Uzui put Tanjiro and the others through a difficult trial, where he attacked them in the woods, and challenged Tanjiro to protect his fellow demon slayers. Tanjiro performed incredibly well against Uzui’s ninja-like stealth and powerful attacks, proving that he’s very nearly on par with a Hashira already. The episode also had a sequence of the Wind and Serpent Hashira discussing the strange castle that they saw in the first episode of the season, as they speculate on the demons' secret base.

Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc Episode #4 Brings a Smile
Episode #4 will focus on Muichiro Tokito’s training
Episode #4 of the Hashira Training Arc is entitled “To Bring a Smile to One’s Face.” Much of episode #3 was original content not featured in the manga, and it’s likely that trend will continue with episode #4 as well. Up next for Hashira training isMuichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira, whose training will focus on swordsmanship. Once again, Tanjiro impresses with his ability to keep up with a Hashira, earning him early approval to move on to the next phase of training, which will take place with Mitsuri Kanroji, the Love Hashira.
Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc Episode #3 Offered More Characterization for Fan Favorites
The anime’s expansion of the arc is needed
The bulk of episode #3 ofDemon Slayer’s fourth season was original content; in the manga, Tanjiro’s training with Tengen Uzui lasted for only two pages before moving on to the next section of the training. While some might therefore consider the episode “filler,” to do so would be to discount the episode’s true intentions. Not only does the episode establish that Tanjiro’s skills have grown to nearly the level of a Hashira, but it also gives fans a little more time with Uzui, a fairly beloved character.
It helps to showcase the relationships which Tanjiro has built over the course of the series, and reinforces how those who’ve fought alongside Tanjiro see him as a valued ally. Instead of looking at this episode as filler, it’s actually working to build up these relationships further, and helping tobetter establish the Hashira as characters. This is particularly important given that this arc directly precedes the final battle, so it’s the last opportunity for character growth and development before things get very bloody. It seems likely at this point that each episode will focus on a particular Hashira, ensuring that they all get some screentime.

While fans of the manga may be eager to hurry up and get to the final battle, there’s no reason to rush to get there, which the manga itself arguably did. The anime’s original content seen in episode #3 certainly enriches the story, and the added time with the characters will ultimately make the final battle in the anime all the more meaningful. After all, if the story is going to take the time to have this training arc before the final battle, it may as well take full advantage of everything that offers, and focusing on the Hashira, some of whom have hardly been seen, is the best way to make use of that time.
Whether fans appreciate the new material or not, it’s likely they can expect more original scenes to help fill outDemon Slayer:Hashira Training Arc.
