Summary
The nextPower Rangersshow remains to be announced, but I know exactly the story the franchise should explore afterCosmic Furyif a reboot does not happen. PerTV Line,Netflix’sPower Rangersreboot is no longer moving forward.Power Rangers’ previous two TV projects,Once & AlwaysandCosmic Fury, were both released as Netflix originals. It seemed like the future of the show was on streaming, which I assumed would allowPower Rangersto test with different formats and target audiences.
Power Rangersdebuted in 1993 withMighty Morphinseason 1. The show continued to release at least one season of television almost every year for three decades, not to mention thePower Rangersmovies, the games, and the hundreds of comic book issues. ThePower Rangerschronologyhas extensive lore that should not be abandoned even if a reboot happens. AlthoughPower Rangerswould benefit from a fresh start, there are still stories worth telling in the current continuity.

Power Rangers’ Future After Cosmic Fury Is Uncertain
Will Power Rangers season 31 happen?
Several months afterCosmic Fury’s ending, the future of thePower RangersTV show is uncertain. The franchise hadn’t skipped a year since 2010, which marked the end ofPower Rangers’ Disney Era and the beginning of the Neo-Saban era. With no updates regarding a newSuper Sentaiadaptation, it was logical to assume thatPower Rangerswas about to break from its original formula and try something new. AlthoughI never wished forPower Rangersto abandonSentaientirely, I was excited to see the franchise do something different.

Following the announcement that anewPower Rangersuniversefrom producer Jonathan Entwistle was in the works,it seemed likeCosmic Furywas going to be the final season in the show’s current formatahead of a reboot. However, the cancellation of the Netflix reboot raises doubt about what the show will do next. According toTV Line, Hasbro is currently looking for a new creative partner to move forward with the project. It is unclear if this will still be the young adultPower Rangersshow confirmed to be in the works a couple of years ago.
Power Rangers’ New Show Can Continue Once & Always And Cosmic Fury’s Zordon Return Story
Blue Ranger Billy is still looking for Zordon
With thePower Rangersreboot currently in limbo, the franchise may want to revisit established characters and storylines before it starts something new. Rebooting a 31-year-old saga is not easy, andit might take a while beforePower Rangerstruly reinvents itself.IfPower Rangerswants to slowly move away from the current format ofSentaiadaptations without doing a complete reboot, a great way to do it would be to continue a storyline that was teased twice in 2023 – Zordon’s return.
Even ifPower Rangersseason 31 does not happen, the show could still explore previous storylines by having aMighty Morphinlegacy sequel.

Zordon had seemingly died at the end ofPower Rangersin Space’s “Countdown to Destruction,” an event that marked the end of the Zordon Era. InPower Rangers: Once & Always, the Netflix special that brought many of the original Rangers together for a nostalgic reunion, Billy was trying to bring Zordon back to life. The original Blue Rangersuspected that Zordon was still out there somewhere, yet Billy’s attempt at finding Zordon ended up resurrecting Rita Repulsa instead. Despite his failure,Billy still believed that Zordon could be alive somehow.
Power RangersCosmic Furyconfirmed the original Blue Ranger’s theory. At the end of the 10-episode season, Zordon appeared to Gold Ranger Aiyon to explain what happened to Zenith Ranger Zayto, who had now become “one with the Morphin Grid.” That said, Zordon was not in his traditional form. Instead, he appeared to Aiyon as Zayto, a trick that allowedCosmic Furyto bring Zordon back without actually recasting or recreating his original form. Once Aiyon told Billy what happened, the Blue Ranger understood that Zordon’s essence was part of the Morphin Grid. In other words,Zordon could come back.

A Mighty Morphin legacy sequel with Minh and J.J. could work
Even ifPower Rangersseason 31 does not happen, the show could still explore previous storylines by having aMighty Morphinlegacy sequel. There is no doubt thatMighty Morphinis the most recognizablePower Rangersproperty, so it would make sense for it to be revisited. WhilePower Rangershas always acknowledgedMMPR, it was only in 2023 that the original show got a proper sequel.Once & Alwayswas thePower Rangersreunion 30 years in the makingand paid homage to both Thuy Trang and Jason David Frank.

Green Ranger
Once & Alwaysalso introduced a brand-newMighty Morphinlegacy character, Minh. Trini’s daughter wanted revenge for her mother but ultimately understood that being a Power Ranger was not about revenge but rather taking care of others.Once & Alwaysends with Minh becoming the thirdMighty MorphinYellow Ranger, following in the footsteps of Trini and Aisha.I would love to see aMighty Morphinlegacy series with new characters like Minhpicking up the mantles of the original heroes. It would also be the perfect opportunity to bringPower Rangers’J.J. Oliver, Tommy and Kat’s son, into live-action.
Tommy and Kat got married between the events ofDino ThunderandSuper Ninja Steel.

Tommy and Kat’s son was first mentioned in “Dimensions in Danger,” aPower Rangerscrossover episodethat celebrated the show’s 25th anniversary. BOOM! Studios’Power Rangers: Soul of the Dragoncomic book would then expand J.J. Oliver’s character by telling a story set a couple of years afterS.P.D., which took place in a not-so-distant future. InSoul of the Dragon,J.J. honors Tommy Oliver’s Green Ranger journey by using his father’s Master Morpher.Although J.J. is technically an SPD Ranger, I would have no problem with a retcon to make him part of a new MMPR team.
Why A Reboot Might Still Be Better For Power Rangers
Power Rangers needs to reinvent itself
As fun as it would be to have a newPower Rangersshow set in the same continuity as all previous seasons following legacy characters like Minh and J.J., the fact is thatPower Rangersneeds a fresh start. After three decades and 30 seasons, the franchise’s formula has worn out.Super Sentaiwill always be part ofPower Rangers’ history and vice versa, but the latter has built a legacy of its own already. Additionally, whilePower Rangers’ target audience has always been children, its lore welcomes more mature stories.
8 Harsh Realities Of Rewatching The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie Almost 30 Years Later
Rewatching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie in 2024 is very nostalgic and reveals some harsh realities about the original Power Rangers film.
BOOM! Studios' comics are the perfect example of how to tell maturePower Rangersstories without losing track of what made the franchise special in the first place. Although I would love to see a live-action version of the comics rebootingMighty Morphinas a big-budget show, I would also like to see brand-newPower Rangersstories. Therefore, I hope that thePower Rangersreboot project moves forward, regardless of its streaming home. A traditionalPower Rangersseason 31 seems unlikely right now, but the saga still has a lot of options to explore.
