Marvel’s kung fu hero Iron Fistdidn’t receive the warmest welcomefrom critics or audiences when his solo series premiered in March, but that didn’t stop Netflix from ordering asecond season of the show. The latest update onIron Fistseason 2 confirms the premiere date and offers a sneak peek at the new season.
With the series returning to Netflix on September 7, here’s what we know aboutIron Fistseason 2 so far.
Premiere date
Marvel and Netflix announced the premiere date forIron Fistseason 2 during the show’s panel atComic-Conin July. The September 7 premiere date was revealed at the end of ateaser trailer(see above) that debuted during the presentation.
Back in June, Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb indicated that the second season ofIron Fistwill arrive on Netflix in 2018 during aReddit AMA(Ask Me Anything) session.
Set in Marvel’s cinematic universe and one of several, interconnected solo series that culminated in this year’s crossover miniseriesThe Defenders,Iron Fiststars Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) as Danny Rand, a kung fu expert who returns home to New York City with powerful abilities after disappearing 15 years earlier.
The second season will bring back first-season cast members Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, and Sacha Dhawan as Davos.Luke CageandThe Defendersactress Simone Missick will also joinIron Fist, reprising her role as Misty Knight.
Iron Fistwill also have at least one prominent new cast member.
In late 2017, actress Alice Eve was added to the cast of the series’ second season. Eve is rumored to be playing the villain Typhoid Mary, a swordsman with powerful abilities in Marvel Comics lore.
“We are very excited to have an actress of Alice’s stature join the cast of Marvel’sIron Fist,” said Loeb in a statement accompanying the casting announcement (viaVariety). “Her exceptional talent brings an intrigue and danger to her character unlike anyone else.”
Eve previously played Starfleet science officer Carol Marcus in 2013’sStar Trek: Into Darkness. More recently, she appeared in the third season of the Netflix seriesBlack Mirror.
The costume
Asked whether fans of the character will eventually see Jones don Iron Fist’s iconic costume from the comics, Loeb stated on Reddit, “You’ll be very happy with Season 2 coming this year!”
Behind the camera
Behind the camera,Iron Fistalso added writer Raven Metzner, who previously served as writer and showrunner onSleepy Hollow. Metzner will take over for first-season showrunner Scott Buck as the new showrunner onIron Fistfor the show’s second season.
