There’s no denying that Iron Man is a genius, one of the most brilliant minds on Earth, but brilliance isn’t always enough to win a fight. The few times Iron Man has gone up against Magneto, he’s had to use everything he has just to hold his own. During their only major fight inAvX,Iron Man only wins because Magnetodecides to surrender mid-fight. This decision is due to circumstances that are entirely unrelated to Iron Man, despite Tony truly trying to hit Magneto with everything he had.It’s a completely hollow victory, and Iron Man knows it.

With so many different characters and varied powers in the Marvel Universe, it’s not hard to imagine a fight between two characters where one is just hopelessly outmatched by the other. Magneto is one of the most powerful mutants alive and has regularly taken down other heavy-hitter Marvel characters like Wolverine. While Iron Man is by far one of the smartest people on the planet, that intelligence simply pales in comparison to the power Magneto has. The oldest and best-known adversary of the X-Men, Magneto has been a part of Marvel Comics since the mutant team was introduced. Bearing powers over magnetic fields, he views mutants as superior to normal humans, and aims to build a world where humans are dominant. The only thing stopping him is Professor X and his team of heroes.
