What Happened In Kaiju No. 8 Episode #10

Produced by Production I.G; Directed by Kenta Kushiya

Kaiju No. 8episode #10, “Secret Revealed”, continued the fight between Hoshina and Kaiju No. 10, the latter now having evolved into a giant-sized form. Hoshina was left unable to do anything to No. 10 in his new form, and with Hoshina overtaxing his suit, he was soon rendered virtually powerless. As the fight continued, though, Hoshina remembered howMina was the only person who ever gave Hoshina a chance despite his lack of skill with firearms, and so he kept fighting, despite still not having a chance against No. 10.

Just as Hoshina was about to be killed, though, Mina returned to the base and started launching an assault against Kaiju No. 10. To give Mina a better shot at Kaiju No. 10’s core, Hoshina, along with Kikoru, put everything they had into crippling No. 10’s legs, and thanks to that, Mina was able to decapitate Kaiju No. 10. Unfortunately, the battle wasn’t over, for in a last-ditch effort to destroy the Defense Force,Kaiju No. 10 commanded the flying Kaiju to fuse into a giant bomb with the destructive force of a nuclear weapon.

Hoshina in episode 10

With everyone still in dire straits from the last fight, no one was equipped to deal with Kaiju No. 10’s final gambit, and it appeared to be the end for the Third Division. Before the bomb could detonate, though,Kafka transformed into his Kaiju form, despite now exposing himself as Kaiju No. 8 in front of everyone, and used his powers to knock the bomb away before anyone could be killed. Kafka’s victory was shortlived, however, as immediately after everyone regained their bearings, Mina and other members of the Third Division put Kafka under arrest.

Kaiju No. 8 Episode #10 Changes Everything

Kafka’s Identity Is Now Exposed

Everything inKaiju No. 8has been completely changed. The anime seemed to have an easy superhero-like story in place by having Kafka secretly fight Kaiju as Kaiju No. 8, both so he won’t get killed and so he can be recognized for his own efforts, but withKafka exposing himself as Kaiju No. 8 only 10 episodes into the show,Kaiju No. 8’s superhero narrativeis completely thrown out the window. There’s no way of knowing how things will progress from here, and it makesKaiju No. 8the most exciting it’s been in weeks.

Kaiju No. 8 Episode #10 Delivers on Both Action & Story

In terms of action and visuals, Production I.G’sKaiju No. 8once again delivered on all fronts with episode #10. Episode #10 was Kenta Kushiya and Susumu Nishizawa’s first time directing and storyboarding for the anime, respectively, but even with that, every fight scene inKaiju No. 8episode #10 was filled with gorgeous visuals and direction, the scene of Kafka dealing with the bomb being an especially great highlight. The anime is likely going to start winding down now, but fortunately, that’s doing nothing to impact the visuals.

The writing employed in episode #10 was also great to see. The major twist of Kafka outing himself as Kaiju No. 8 was one thing, butthe added depth given to Hoshina’s character makes him an even more likable cast member, as now there’s much more to him than being a comedic character with occasional moments of seriousness. The writing inKaiju No. 8has always been one of its biggest weaknesses, but it’s probably at its best in episode #10, and it promises many great things for episode #11, and beyond.
