But according to the most recent information, Square Enix was unhappy with its progress and brought the remake project back under its own umbrella. That suggests theFF9remake isn’t just a work of shovelware, ground out to make a quick buck on brand recognition and nostalgia. Its quality is clearly under careful scrutiny, and the devs are genuinely trying to make a good product.
This also debunks suspicions that theFF9remake was one of many games recently canceled by Square Enixafter its financial results for the last fiscal year failed to meet internal expectations. It’s believed that Square Enix will be revealing several new titles for Xbox consoles during this event,part of Summer Game Fest weekend. AnFF9remake could be among those titles, and, if it’s as far along in development as @MbKKssTBhz5 seems to think it is, it could be released within Square Enix’s current fiscal year.
Square Enix’s fiscal year ends on June 13, 2025, so if the rumor is true, theFF9remake could be released within a year.
