Before the incident, the man wasreportedto have entered the airport by car, though he was driving the wrong way. He then abandoned his vehicle and sprinted across the runway after forcing his way through a security door while being chased by the police, all according to eyewitness accounts.

The door in question directly led to the aircraft parking area. As the Volotea Airbus A319 was performing its “pushback maneuver” and was “already on the move” to prepare to depart for Asturias, Spain, witnesses said that he got close to the aircraft and was pulled into its engine.
