Regular Show Reboot Is Entirely New (But Will Revisit OG Characters)

Does This Mean New Characters?

A lot of questions regarding the newRegular Showseries have been raised since the series announcement, with this being due to many details being kept heavily under wraps. While things aren’t entirely clear yet, the show was described as being an entirely new franchise relaunch when it was announced at Annecy, meaning that it will most likely focus on new characters and new stories. So, rather than being a sequel series to the originalRegular Showcast, it seems more likely that a new group of wacky animated characters will be the focus of the upcoming reboot.

I’m Worried That They’ll Mess It Up

While I am excited about the newRegular Showseries, it is a cautious optimism, as the original series already had a perfect ending.“A Regular Epic Final Battle” isRegular Show’s three-part series finale, and it manages to perfectly wrap up each character, with them all getting some kind of conclusion. The final episode flashes decades into the future, revealing that Mordecai has gotten married and become an artist, Rigby is married to Eileen and has kids, Benson owns the park, and a statue has been erected in honor of Pops' sacrifice.

Bringing any of these characters back risks hurtingRegular Show’s finale, as the conclusion of the series doesn’t leave much room open for further stories with these characters.Regular Showimplies that the characters live in relative peace after the titular epic final battle, and showing more stories with Mordecai, Rigby, and the gang would ruin this. Instead, it would be much better to focus on new characters in theRegular Showuniverse, leaving the original characters to live their happy lives.

Which Regular Show Characters Should Return For The New Series?

It Should Stay Away From The Main Characters

Due to the absurd nature ofRegular Show, almost any character could return for the new series, including the loads of side characters that appear in variousRegular Showepisodes. Rather than bringing back the main cast members from the original series, seeing cameos and one-off storylines involving the side characters from the original series would work best, with this preserving the legacy of the original series. Plus, Skips is an obvious pick due to his immortal nature.

However, there is one way to bring Mordecai, Rigby, and the rest of the characters back. If the newRegular Showseriestakes place before the season finale’s time jump, some more stories could be told with the original cast before they fully departed ways. While Pops would still be dead, beloved characters like Muscle Man and Benson could come back if the series is set at the original park, with this being the perfect way to interweave the new and oldRegular Showcharacters.
