She was born to Dr. Kathryn Hayward, whose family is from Massachusetts, and David Thomas, whose family hails from Vermont. As an undergrad, David studied Spanish literature. He and Kathryn moved to Spain in 2011.Though she used to claim that she moved to the US from Spain when she was 19, Hilaria was born in Boston and attended Cambridge School of Westonin Weston, Massachusetts.

The unraveling of Hilaria’s fake Spanish persona all started with Amy Schumer. After a snarky unrelated mini-spat on social media between the women went viral,the issue of Hilaria’s fake persona was thrust into the spotlight. It wasn’t long before people were posting about Hilaria’s fake image, which had apparently been a running joke in NYC. When the truth about Hilaria’s origin story was revealed, multiple YouTube accounts, likeHolly Hurtado,posted clips from Hilaria’sToday Showappearance.
In the clip, Hilaria spoke with the fake accent and pretended not to know the English word for “cucumber”.
The ruse went beyond faking an accent. Hilaria’s Spanish origin story went public in 2013 when Alec appeared on David Letterman’s show and said, “my wife is from Spain.” In 2018, Hilaria toldHola! USAthat shewas born in Spain and Spanish was her native language. Even her bio on her CAA speaking engagement site stated that she was born in Mallorca, Spain. The bio, and theHola! USAarticle, were later corrected.
Responding to the attention, Hilaria made a 7-minute video explaining herself. The Instagram video is now deleted, and featured Hilaria sounding very different than she sounded in the cucumber video. Though she admitted that she,“is a white girl,” she took no responsibility for lying to people about her ethnicity for so many years. In fact,she blamed everybody else for simply not understanding her unique multicultural reality. She claimed that she never said that she was Spanish, despite the plethora of proof to the contrary.
Hilaria Claimed To Be A Victim Of Racism
Highly Problematic Behavior
Aside from pretending to be an immigrant struggling with English,Hilaria’s worst transgression was the time that she claimed to be the victim of racism. In May 2024,Hilariaposted a photo of her child to Instagram. Her caption read, in part, “With two blonde hair, blue eyed children, people at the park always ask me if I am a nanny. They hear me speaking to my children in Spanish and I have been offered so many jobs.” The only thing worse than pretending to be a person of color is pretending to be a victim of racism.

The Baldwins Will Premiere in 2025
Alecposted an announcement for the show to his Instagram account in June, 2024, with a caption that reads, “We’ve got an exciting announcement to share! Coming in 2025…” In the video,40-year-old Hilaria and 66-year-old Alec are surrounded by their 7 young children, who run around the room screaming. After joking about this not being yet another Baldwin baby announcement, the famously fertile couple announced their new show. “This is about our show,” said Hilaria.
Notably, Hilaria spoke without her fake Spanish accent throughout the announcement.
It’s unclear whenThe Baldwinsseason 1 will start filming. WithAlec’s involuntary manslaughter trialtaking place this summer, it may be hard for him to fit filming into his schedule. Though initial criminal charges brought against him were dropped in April 2023, this new set of charges could landAlec in prison for up to 18 months under New Mexico law.
