The Punisher is getting his own Disney Plus show but there’s a big catch
Jon Bernthal will return as The Punisher inDaredevil: Born Again, but that’s not all: he’s set to get his own show on Disney Plus, but you may be a little disappointed.
There have been four live-action Punishers: Dolph Lundgren in 1989’s dreadful movie, Thomas Jane in the underrated 2004 film and 2012’s incredible Dirty Laundry short film, the late Ray Stevenson in 2008’s diabolically violent War Zone, and Bernthal.
The latter star debuted as Frank Castle inDaredevilSeason 2, colliding with the Man Without Fear in Hell’s Kitchen as he mows down criminals in an effort to avenge his family. He was the runaway highlight of the season, paving the way for his ownNetflixseries lasting two seasons.
Almost five years later, Matt Murdock and Castle will reunite in Daredevil: Born Again, andMarvelhas big(ish) plans for The Punisher.
The Punisher is getting a Disney Plus Special Presentation
Rather than a whole series, Marvel is developing a Special Presentation centered on The Punisher for Disney Plus.
Speaking toComic Book, Marvel’s TV chief Brad Winderbaum confirmed: “[Bernthal] is working on a special presentation with us about that character.”
There have been two Special Presentations: the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Werewolf By Night (the latter of which is one of the best things the MCU has ever produced).
Considering Born Again’s TV-MA rating and the studio’s newfound openness to more adult material, fans shouldn’t be worried: it will be as dark and violent as a Punisher story deserves. It’s unclear exactly what it’ll be about; it could fill in the gap between The Punisher Season 2 and Born Again, or it could take place after the first season of the new series.
One thing is certain: Bernthal is locked in. “You know, gratitude, but I’ve said it before it’s really not about coming back,” he toldLADbible.

“I’m grateful to be doing it with these people. Grateful that we’re sort of preserving the intensity, and, again, the integrity of what we were doing before, and building on that.”
