Valheim Ashland’s New Creature Is Hard To Tame, But Well Worth The Effort
Valheim’s new Ashlands update includes some of the strangest creatures the game has featured yet. They can be hard to tame, but it’s worth the effort.
How to Tame an Askvin in Valheim
Taming Askvins inValheimis a simple procedure thanks to the YouTube video byLate_Night_Stream. Who notes that before you can find and tame an Askvin, you must first make an Askvin saddle. This can be done at theBlack Forge (level 2)and will requiresix Flametal, 20 Linen Thread, and four Morgen Sinew.
Flametal ore can be found in glowing metal piles scattered around theAshlandsbiome, and will require an iron pickaxe to mine. Linen Thread is made simply by adding flax to a Spinning wheel. Lastly, Morgen Sinew can be acquired by killing Morgen in theAshlandsbiome.

Once you have your saddle, you can start searching for Askvins throughout theAshlandsbiome. However, because creatures spawn at random, players will need to search the biome to find one. Once you’ve found an Askvin you deem fit (hopefully a two-star purple Askvin), you’ll need tocreate a deep pit to trap it in.This way, you canget the Askvin to agro on you and can lure and trap it in the pit.
Now that you have an Askvin trapped in your pit, you can easily tame them. That being said, there are some strict rules you must follow. To tame an Askvin, it needs to be within 64 meters of the player, not in combat, and must be fed.Askvins require feeding every 10 minutes while being tamed, and can be fed withSmokepuffs, Fiddleheads, or Vineberries.

You’ll know the taming process has started once you see yellow hearts emerging off the Askvin. In total, the whole process should take about 30 minutes as Askvins tame by one percent every 18 seconds.
Don’t forget, you can alsoname your tamed creature in Valheim.
You’ll know the Asksvins tamed once its health bar turns green. At this point, simply interact with it and throw on your Asksvin saddle to mount it. Now you have a new tamed creature that will help you fend off the deadlyAshlandenemies inValheim.
